The Permaculture Design Course is a comprehensive and in-depth training experience that equips Permaculture Designers with the foundation necessary to design systems and sites using the unique Permaculture methodology and to begin implementing Permaculture Design at any scale. The Certificate is a also a prerequisite for a Diploma in Permaculture Design, offered through The Permaculture Institute. Credit for this course is now accepted by a growing number of universities around the world.

Teacher:

This PDC course will be taught by Mustafa Fatih Bakir, a Permaculture consultant, designer and teacher with a professional background in architecture and landscape architecture.
Mustafa is the founding director of The Permaculture Research Institute of Turkey and lives an active life in the village of Marmaric, in the mountains of the Eagean. He has designed and is presently the Permaculture consultant for 5 projects in Turkey and a project in Spain.

THE COURSE

The Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) course is an internationally-recognized, 72-hour course resulting in a Permaculture Design Certificate. It provides an introduction to Permaculture design as set forth by movement founder Bill Mollison.
To date, thousands of Permaculture designers worldwide have been certified through this course, and now comprise a global network of educators, ecological activists who influence major corporations, individuals creating new business alternatives and groups of committed people working together to change the way we view and design into our landscapes.
The course covers sustainable living systems for a wide variety of landscapes and climates. It includes the application of Permaculture principles to food production, home design, construction, energy conservation and generation, and explores alternative economic structures and legal strategies supporting Permaculture solutions.

The Curriculum is Based on all Subjects in: PERMACULTURE: A Designers’’ Manual by Bill Mollison. Students are invited to bring details of their own sites or potential sites to consider during the course.

GREEN RAMADHAN PLEDGE

"I _______________________ pledge this Ramadhan to MAKE A DIFFERENCE to be environmentally conscious, socially responsible and compassionate to those around me in following the example of Prophet Muhammad – the mercy to the worlds. In order to fulfill this, I pledge to do the following action items (SELECT PLEDGE ITEMS):

WATER

ð 1. Adopt a Sunnah Wudu: It is reported that the Prophet Muhammad would perform the entire wudu from a bowl two-hands full together (approximately 0.5 liter) and he warned against excess in performing ablution (israf).

ð 2. Quick Showers: Reduce shower time by 20%. On average, a ten minute shower results in twenty-five gallons of water down the drain.

WASTE

ð 3. Eliminate Plastic Water Bottles: Plastic should be minimized because of harm related to global warming and health.

ð 4. Eliminate Styrofoam. Styrofoam is unrecyclable and non-biodegradable, which means that it will persist as garbage even a thousand year after its use.

ð 5. Adopt a Reusable water bottle/mug whether you are at the mosque, work, or home. Avoid bringing plastic disposable bottles to the mosque during iftars and for tarawih.

ð 6. Reduce Disposable Party items: Remove or reduce all of disposable items from your parties and save money while doing so.

FOOD

ð 7. Reduce food waste and over consumption by eating moderately, keeping in mind the hadith (fill ⅓ of stomach with food, ⅓ water, and ⅓ empty). Take only what you can comfortably finish.

ð 8. Sunnah Iftars: Eat More Fruits & Vegetables, Less Meat: The Prophet’s diet consisted mostly of grains, dates, water, milk, honey, vegetables and fruits. Meat was not daily part of his diet.

ENERGY

ð 9. Make an effort to carpool.

ð 10. Plant or expand a garden this year (less grass, more trees and plants) at home or the mosque and remember that planting a tree is a charity.

May God help me accomplish this pledge to the best of my ability seeking His pleasure, amen.”

10 Ways to Green Your Ramadhan

A Green Ramadhan is an opportunity to remember and respect our planet which, through the grace of Allah, provides us with the sustenance with which we nourish our bodies and community spirit during a month of fasting. Interacting mindfully with our environment is simply a manifestation of faith. As we refrain from food and drink this blessed Ramadhan, let us reaffirm our sense of self-restraint and accountability to the Creator, the Provider of Sustenance.

1. Eat Local & Organic. How much greenhouse gasses were emitted for that huge box of medjool Saudi dates to reach your house? Shop for local, seasonal produce at local farmer’s markets. Local foods are often more fresh, taste better and help us keep in touch with the seasons. When we eat local foods, we support our local economies and our food has a shorter distance to travel, helping to reduce pollution. If you’re having a potluck, challenge your guests to use ingredients from within 100 miles of their home, from the potatoes and tomatoes, to the garlic and onions.

2. Use Re-usables. As many plates, cups, napkins, and utensils as possible should be reusable, and if not reusable, compostable and/or recyclable. If you can’t use proper dishes and utensils, use dishwasher-safe, renewable products from Preserve or Bambu that can be found in your local markets. Donate cloth napkins that you’ve made from old clothing or purchased from eco-sites like ReUseIt.com. Explore the possibility of renting dinnerware from a local restaurant. Consider donating to Green Muslims’ IftaRRR initiative, partnering with area masajid to reduce waste generated during Ramadan iftar celebrations. Use beverages in aluminum cans and glass bottles: they are more easily recycled than plastic. Serve foods that can be easily eaten “sunna-style” with the fingers. Using real cutlery and tableware reduces the trash that goes into our landfills.

3. Serve Products With Less Packaging. Avoid prepared foods that have throw-away plastic spoons, stirrers or bowls. Instead of individual bottles of water, use a pitcher of water. Make sure to recycle what packaging you can, but less packaging means less waste going to landfills.

4. Make Recycling Easy. Make bins to sort trash visible and readily available. Make an announcement, post signs, and have “recycling ambassadors” make sure items go in the proper bin. Have one bin for food waste that can be taken to a compost bin; the second for recyclables such as glass and aluminum cans; and the third for regular trash.

5. Go Vegetarian. Vegetables and fruits are always zabiha. At the least, reduce the amount of meat served. High meat consumption is one of the largest contributors to global warming. If you must have meat, have only one meat dish, use meat sparingly, or only as a garnish. In addition, use meat that is not only halal, but organic. When serving seafood, make sure it is sustainably grown. Having at least one vegetarian iftar a week is better for our health and the planet.

6. Encourage Guests to Travel Green. Give door-prizes or party favors to those who carpool, use public transportation, bike or walk to the iftar. Green gifts like the Green Deen book; a cup of fair-trade, organic coffee from a local coffee shop; freshly baked cookies made from organic flour and rainforest-friendly chocolate; or cloth shopping bags are inexpensive but sustainable ways to make the reward for living gently on the earth more immediate.

7. Clean Up Green. Use biodegradable cleaning products to wash tableware and napkins and for general cleanup of tables and counters, or make your own from common household products like vinegar and baking soda. For whatever trash you do have — hopefully not much — use biodegradable trash bags. When we use environmentally friendly cleaning products our indoor environment is less toxic and fewer hazardous chemicals are released into the air and waste water streams.

8. Make Wudhu Like the Prophet. Make it a habit to be more mindful of water consumption this Ramadan. Instead of running the water on full throttle, set the faucet to a trickle and make a thorough wudhu with as little water as possible. Not only does it save on water, but it makes bathroom clean-up easier.

9. Make the CF Light Bulb Change. Typically during Ramadan we spend a lot more time at our local masajid/mosques or community centers. Donate a compact florescent light bulb to your local masjid or community center so when we burn the midnight oil for those long tarawih prayers or spend those blessed nights in worship, we are using less energy and saving money.

10. Make Dua. Never underestimate the power of prayer. Ask Allah to assist us in healing our planet and — combining faith with action — help us to be agents of change in making our planet a healthier, sustainable, and more beautiful world-community.

Wherever you find yourself having iftar this Ramadhan share with others, through words and actions, how Green Ramadhans are better for our planet. Have a goal of making each iftar a zero-waste event.

making your own household soap!

You and your whole family will appreciate the switch to these natural soaps!

Participants will learn to make their own soap mould and about 800g of soap, which they
can take home to cut afterwards. "

Eidul Adha Mubarak!

Eid-ul-Adha is celebrated on the 10^th of Dhul Hijjah, the twelfth and final month in the Islamic Lunar calendar. It marks the end of Hajj, which is the annual pilgrimage of Muslims worldwide to city of Makkah in Saudi Arabia. It is a time to rejoice and celebrate by wishing each other “Eid Mubarak” or “Have a blessed Eid.”

It is as the Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said, “The greatest day in the sight of Allah, may He be blessed and exalted, is the Day of Sacrifice…” (Abu Dawud). The Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) also said:

“The day of ‘Arafah, the day of Sacrifice, and the days of al-Tashreeq are our festival, us Muslims, and they are days of eating and drinking.” (Tirmidhi).

It is the day when many acts of worship are combined, such as reciting takbeerat exalting Allah, praying as a large community, and offering the udhiya (the sacrificial animal).

History of the Eid ul Adha Festival

Eid ul Adha is an Islamic festival commemorating the obedience and faith of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) to sacrifice his son Prophet Ismail (A.S), for Allah (S.W.T). Allah tested Ibrahim by commanding him through a dream to sacrifice his son, Ismail. He then set off with his son to a mountain, where he would perform the sacrifice. But while he was about to slaughter his son, Allah The Almighty rewarded him with a sheep instead, to be sacrificed.

Eid al Adha falls on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah of the Islamic calendar and happens after the Hajj. This celebration is one of the 2 main festivals in Islam; the other is Eid ul Fitr.

And so, with every smile, every helping hand, every lovely word, every helpful reminder, every good deed during these blessed 10 days before ‘Eid al Adha count more than all year long, inshaallah,

so let’s collect Hasanaat and let’s fast the day of Arafa for the sake of Allah alone, inshaallah..

May Allah unite this Ummah and guide us to the right path of peace, we wish everyone a happy blessed and beautiful Eid InshaAllah..

Sunnahs pertaining to the day of ‘Eid-ul-Adha:

1. The Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) used to do ghusl on the day of ‘Eid.

2. He (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) used to wear his most beautiful garments to go out to pray. For modesty reasons, the women should avoid adorning themselves when they go out for ‘Eid.

3. With regard to ‘Eid-ul-Adha, the Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) used not to eat anything until he came back from the place of prayer. He would eat some of the meat of his sacrifice. If a person is not planning to offer a sacrifice, then there is nothing wrong with eating before the prayer.

4. And he (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) used to go out to the ‘Eid prayer walking and come back walking. He (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) used to vary his route on the day of ‘Eid. He would go by one route and come back by another.

5. Another sunnah is to say the takbeerat “Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, laa ilaaha illAllah, wa Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, wa lillaah il-hamd (Allah is Most Great, Allah is most Great, there is no god but Allah, Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great, and to Allah be praise)” when coming out of one’s house to the prayer place and until the imam comes.

6. The Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) used to offer the ‘Eid prayers in the prayer-place (musalla).

7. He (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) did not offer any prayer in the prayer-place before or after the ‘Eid prayer.

8. The ‘Eid prayer does not consist of an adhaan or an iqaamah.

9. The Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) would start with the prayer before the khutbah.

10. There are seven takbeerat in the first raka’h and five takbeerat in the second raka’h of ‘Eid prayer (Tirmidhi).

11. The khutbah after the ‘Eid prayer is optional. Abu Dawood narrated that ‘Abdullah ibn al-Saa’ib said: “I attended ‘Eid (prayer) with the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam), and when he had finished the prayer he said: ‘We are going to deliver the khutbah, so whoever wants to sit and listen to the khutbah, let him do so, and whoever wants to leave, let him go.’”

12. Exchange du’a, congratulations or good wishes with the people at the end of the khutbah. Examples include: Taqabbal Allah minna wa minkum (May Allah accept (good deeds) from us and from you) or “Eid Mubarak” and other permissible expressions of congratulations.

13. The Days of Tashreeq: The days of Tashreeq are the 11^th, 12^th and 13^th of Dhul Hijjah. The Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said concerning the days of Tashreeq: “They are days of eating, drinking and remembering Allah.” It is recommended to remember Allah immediately after the prescribed prayers by reciting the takbeerat. This is prescribed until the end of the days of Tashreeq according to the majority of scholars.

There are so many great ways to have a greener school yearly. This is a top ten list of SIMPLE ideas you can implement in your school, in no time, and with no cost! All the while, encouraging GREEN habits, pro-active solutions and teaching the 4 “r’s”.

1. Reusable Containers

Encourage everyone to use reusable containers to hold their snacks, drinks and lunches - so that no plastic or paper has to be thrown away. This is a great way to REDUCE!

2. Scrap Paper Box

Keep a scrap paper box in a convenient location. Encourage everyone to use both sides of the paper. This is a great way to Renew!

3. Ecology Craft Box

So many of the items normally bound for the garbage actually make wonderful craft materials. Boxes, tissue paper, string, and plastic bottles are some of the items kids can use to make great projects. This is a great way to recycle!

4. School supply SWAP

Organize a school supply swap or have a swap box in the classroom for unused school supplies and books. This is a great way to REDUCE!

5. Book Swap:

Encourage additional reading! Organize a one-day book swap or have a “free book” bookcase in the classroom.This is a great way to REUSE!

6. Organize a “Walking School Bus” or Car Pool:

If kids live close to school, we love this idea. Kids can learn to save energy and gas by using alternative means of transportation such as bicycle, walk or ride sharing. This is a great way to REDUCE!

7. Get Your Whole School to Recycle. Start a Go Green PATROL

Go Green Patrol is a great way to encourage kids In school. This is a great project for your class. if your school does not already have a recycling program in place. If your school already recycles, see if your class can improve the current system. This is a great way to RECYCLE!

8. Recycle Fundraisers:

Good for the school good for the environment. Recycle phones and ink cartridges. Earn points and money for your classroom. Encourage companies to sponsor your by donating their points. A recycle fundraiser gets everyone involved. This is a great way to RECYCLE!

9. School Beautification:

Teach kids to love their surroundings and earn a green thumb. Start seedlings and later plant flowers around the schoolyard. Encourage them to maintain the garden. This is a great way to RENEW!

10. ORGANIZE a “Going Green Day”.

We praise Allah for having blessed us with Ramadhan – the Month of the Qur’an, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon Muhammad, the one for whom Ramadhan was an institution, the syllabus the Qur’an and the teacher Gibraeel. May the Peace and blessings of Allah be upon Him, his family, his Companions and all those who follow his way till the day of Judgement. Ameen

Ramadhan has a beloved – a beloved that is closely connected and attached to its heart. If you wish to befriend Ramadhan, then you must befriend her beloved.
That beloved and loved one is the Qur’an;

Ramadhan loves the Qur’an and the Qur’an loves Ramadhan.

Allah says: “The month of Ramadan is the one in which the Quran was sent down, aguidance for mankind, clear proofs for the guidance, the Criterion… [i]

I pray that those of us who are not clear in terms of our lives receive some guidance and that those who are fasting for the first time have a beautiful time!

Thank Allah we have lived to see another Ramadhan and pray for the forgiveness of those who have not. Taqaballahu minna wa minkum!

Seven Ways to Peace and Happiness
Al-Mulk [3] He Who created the seven heavens one above another: no want of proportion wilt thou see in the Creation of (Allah) Most Gracious. So turn thy vision again: seest thou any flaw?
Rule 1:
Let's fill our minds with thoughts of peace, courage, health, and hope, for "our life is what our thoughts make it."
Rule 2: Let's never try to get even with our enemies, because if we do we will hurt ourselves far more than we hurt them. Let's never waste a minute thinking about people we don't like.
Rule 3:
A. Instead of worrying about ingratitude, let's expect it.

B. Let's remember that the only way to find happiness is not to expect gratitude - but to give for the joy of giving.

C. Let's remember that gratitude is a "cultivated" trait; so if we want our children to be grateful, we must train them to be grateful.

Rule 4: Count your blessings - not your troubles!
Rule 5: Let's not imitate others. Let's find ourselves and be ourselves, for "envy is ignorance" and "imitation is suicide."
Rule 6:
When fate hands us a lemon, let's try to make a lemonade.
Rule 7: Let's forget our own unhappiness - by trying to create a little happiness for others. "When you are good to others, you are best to yourself."

Someone (from the Ansaar) said: “O Messenger of Allaah, should we make you a pulpit?” He said, “If you wish.” So they made a pulpit for him, and when the next Friday came, he was shown to the pulpit. The tree cried like a small child, then …the Prophet came down and hugged the crying tree until it calmed down.” The Narrator (Jaabir) said: “It was crying because of the dhikr (remembrance of Allaah) that it used to hear.”

Habitat
Elephants favour riverine vegetation zones in the dry season of late May to late September. During the wet
seasons, they prefer tall grasses and deciduos forests areas while short grass and scrub forests are used
for the months of September to December.

They are also regular raiders into oil palm and fruit plantations in the states of Pahang, Johor, Terengganu,
Kelantan , Kedah and Perak. Incidentally.." Kedah " is Thai language for elephant trap!!!

Physical Characteristics of young adult & mature adult elephants
a) Average weight of between 2,500 kg to 4,500 kg of newly born elephants is 90kgs

b) Average height at the shoulder is 2.4 metres

c) The thickest skin is found on the back and head areas. The thinnest skin is around the mouth, anus and the
back of the ears.
The elephant's gray skin is only 0.8 to 1.6 inches thick, and sparsely covered with hair.
The skin does become pinkish white with age.

d) The heart weighs an average of 15kg, about 0.5% of body weight. The average heart rate is 28 per minute
standing up and 35 per minutes lying down.
The pulse will increase when an elephant is lying down and slowest at a standing position.

e) Typically, there are 5 nails on each front foot and 4 nails on each hind foot.

f) The most prominent adaptation of the trunk is that of the upper lip and the nose into the trunk. This functions like a hand and in the Asian elephant has one finger-like projection on the top.

The trunk has the ability to suck and spray water, manipulate objects and grasp and hold large, heavy objects. Elephants sometimes beat the earth with their trunks as a sign of anger, too or as snorkels when crossing waterways! Subhanallah!

And like every kid.....they just want to have some fun! :)

Wildlife are Very Affected by Plastic Bags!

Wildlife have a tough time getting out of plastic bags. They can get caught around their bodies, suffocating them quickly. Some animals mistake plastic bags for food, causing deadly internal damage. If you have plastic bags, bring them back to the grocery store! You can recycle them there. Look near the can redemption room, or ask the service desk where you can place them. They want your bags! They recycle the bags into new plastic items. The next time you go shopping, don't forget to bring your very own grocery bag! Let's take care of this little creation of Allah SWT too!!

Remember, wildlife are very affected by plastic bags!

My Earth Hour 2010

"Earth Hour is a symbolic event and is meant to unite people, companies and governments around the world through the very simple act of flipping a light switch. We hope that through events like Earth Hour, a growing number of people, governments and businesses will be aware and concern enough about the climate crisis to start making the necessary changes to be more carbon-efficient.

Earth Hour is not a long-term solution to mitigate climate change. However, it is an important first step to generate awareness, interest and concern over the global threat of climate change. People will only be motivated to take effective action against environmental threats like climate change if they are first made aware of the issue through campaigns like Earth Hour. By participating in Earth Hour, you are agreeing that strong action needs to be taken to find a solution to the climate crisis.

Earth Hour is an important first step. WWF hopes that people will continue to demonstrate their concern about climate change by taking steps towards achieving energy efficiency and avoiding wasteful consumption. Community Service In The Life Of Abu Bakr As-Siddiq

Abu Bakr As-Siddiq remains one of our heroes and superstars till the end of time. This is a fact, Oh Muslims, not a fallacy.

May Allaah be pleased with him, put himself at the forefront of community service to the people before his reign as the khalifah. The recipients of his benevolent services were single mothers whose husbands had died or were martyred while defending Islam. He ran some house errands for them such as preparing dough and milking their goats.

However, when he was elected to be the Muslims’ leader after the death of the Prophet, sallallahu alayhe was salam, the single mothers had apprehension and anxiety. Their concern was that this new position would become a stumbling block, thus preventing him from continuing his services for them. One time, he overheard one widow say: “Now, no one will milk our goats for us,” to which he responded, “No, by Allah I will continue milking your goats.”

And so, off he went to the woman’s residence. At the entrance of the door was the woman’s young daughter who exclaimed with joy, “Mum, the goats’ milker is here!!” Abu Bakr becomes the renowned goat milker. For whom? The widows, the weak, and the orphans. Subhanallah!

Truly, this is community service 101. This is a description of a selfless community service for the less privileged and underserved. In our present days and times, when the weak, the poor, the destitute, are looked down upon, and their basic rights are unfulfilled by those in authority; when wealth and riches have become the order of the day for our Muslim leaders, and pride and arrogance have beclouded their judgments to acknowledge the rights of those under them. From this story, we can all learn from the life of Abu Bakr As-siddiq. Despite his reign as the khalifah and his ultimate success as one of the top ten chosen Muslim men promised paradise by Allaah subhana wa Ta’ala, he didn’t get carried away with these positions. In reality, he got carried away by being at full service to his community members, fulfilling their basic needs, one widow and one orphan at a time.

what community service have we to offer our community, our school and our Ummah?

HOME: Where The Heart Is

These days, there are many Muslim homes that, although they are occupied with people, they are in fact,dead. This is because there is no remembrance of Allaah, as mentioned in the following hadeeth.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“The likeness of a house in which Allaah is remembered and the house in which Allaah is not remembered is that of the living and the dead, respectively.”

We must make our homes places where Allaah is remembered in all kinds of ways,

whether in our hearts,

verbally,

during prayer,

by reading Qur’aan,

by discussing Islamic issues,

by reading different kinds of Islamic story books,

or even when we are playing games and having fun.

InshaAllah, these are things that should occur on a consistent basis so that the Angels will come to the home and bring Allah’s blessings to us and our families ameen.

Isn't it amazing how Allah made birds fly in the air?

and say

!سبحان الله

"All glory to Allâh"

The Arabic root s-b-h can certainly mean to praise or to glorify, but in a deeper sense, this root also points toward a sense of swimming in something, or being immersed in something, or to be be floating in something, or to have something spread out in front of you as far as the eye can see.

Armed with these insights, we have a whole new vision of this word subhân... a delightfully expansive view, as though one is immersed in a vast sea which spreads out infinitely in all directions, a vast sea that one is floating in and the one is totally supported by. Oh, that is so beautiful!

What a powerful and magnificent metaphor this is for our existence in Allâh, portraying the vast Ocean of Allâh, and our utter dependence upon Allâh for all of our support.

The deepest loneliness arises when we forget that we are immersed in this Magnificent Ocean. The Ocean is not something to seek. It's already here. The challenge of life is to become aware of what we already have.

Recycle, Precycle, Which Cycle Is Best for You?

We all know by now what the term "recycle" means. Everywhere you go you seem to hear the term and see the symbol. But, better than "recycling" is PRECYCLING!

Precycling is a good way to reduce the amount of recycling you have to do. It's a simple concept that came out of the seventies, when the whole earth movement started. The idea is this: If you take a little action before you buy items, you won't have as much waste!

Today, packages are getting smaller and smaller to keep costs at the same level. That means a lot more recycling has to be done. Not to mention, the exorbitant number of water bottles and convenient "single packs" available for people to use daily. It all adds up to more recycling. But you can end that cycle of trash by practicing a few precycle tips. Precycling is not just good for earth but can also be healthier for living things!

Here is a simple list from planetpals.com with some precycle basics to help you be more earthly wise:

1. Bring reusable bags to the store with you. Cloth or paper will do!

2. Buy Large Quantities. If you buy products in bulk or in large sizes and quantities, you can put them in smaller containers as you need them and this uses less containers.

3. Buy products with the least amount of packaging or none at all. Items packed in multiple containers may look nice, but they are a waste!

4. Buy products packed in recycled packaging. If you have to use a container, it might as well be green. Additionally, you help support green corporations. (Important: make sure you look for the recycled symbol)

5. Don't buy disposable items (plates cups, diapers, batteries, etc.) They only fill the landfill more. It's a little more work, but worth the effort.

6. Buy less paper towels and napkins or none at all. Use cloth ones!

7. Buy long life and concentrated items (batteries, bulks , etc.) This saves on packaging as well as product.

8. Don't purchase anything made of styrofoam or packed in styrofoam. It contains polystyrene, which is the most difficult material to break down in our landfill and is considered a hazardous waste.

9. Buy items in cardboard. aluminum, steel, glass, and plastic containers marked 1 (PET or PETE) and 2 (HDPE). These containers can be recycled more easily.

10. Read labels for ingredients. Stay away from chemicals that harm our plant and animal life and poison our land.

Laylatul-Qadr is tonight?

It's been my experience, I don't know if you've noticed it as well, that when the last ten nights starts, many people are slow to realize it. Masjid Taraweeh attendance doesn't normally pick up until the 24th of Ramadan.

Why Do We WAIT?

A reminder for myself and you: WHAT IF!!!

Laylatul Qadr is tonight? Will we be ready?

I want to take advantage of every night of the last ten nights!

It's too precious - the reward of 1000 months is too great!

Make lots and lots of DU'AS everyone!

5 Easy Ways to I'TIKAAF

Here's a quick I'tikaaf overview

I'tikaaf is to seclude oneself in the Masjid for the purpose of worshipping Allah.

Rasulullah Sallallahu'alayhi waSsallam, did it in Ramadan for the last 10 nights. This was the general practice of the Holy Prophet.

It means to seclude oneself in the Masjid for the last ten days of Ramadhaan. And as for a woman, she may observe I'tikaf at the masjid or in her place of seclusion at home.

Here are 5 quick tips:

1. The meaning of 'I'tikaaf' is to seclude oneself at the place of Worship, with the express intention (Niyyah) of 'I'tikaaf'.

2. Leaving the Masjid (without valid reasons) breaks one's I'tikaaf.

3. I'tikaaf is meant for worship.Do not talk or entertain yourself. One must speak only what is virtue or what is necessary. We can make Nafl Salat, Tilawatul Qur'an, Zikr, Istighfar and permanent Zikr in general throughout the duration of I'itikaf.

(No little monkeys, remember from your Ramadhan Journal?)

4. You can do I'tikaaf for any period of time, any time of the day.

5. In a year, when else will you dedicate time for Allah like this?

Come on, lets try to make I'itikaaf!

Bonus: If you can't do it everyday, try weekends or at least some days.

We never know when death chooses to approach us.
Today? Tomorrow? The day after? Only He knows.

"I want to pray, I want to fast and I want to be a better Muslim; but I don't know when."
A common statement made by many Muslims I know.
They have the niyyah to practise but is that enough?

They wish to be guided but do they make the effort to ask for guidance?

"but I don't know when."
Why not now? Do you need a time to make tawbah? Do you need Allah to personally tell you; "My servant, it's time you pray"?

What has He not blessed you with?
Body, Soul, Mind & Heart - it's all in.

He's blessed you with a body - awaken it.
He's blessed you with a soul - liven it.
He's blessed you with a mind - purify it.
He's blessed you with a heart - cleanse it.

Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? (Surah Ar-Rahman [Chap 55] )

O Allah Please protect and bless the sick and the weak in their struggle to please you, and O Allah please guide our children that they may grow up to be strong believers

"O my Lord! Grant me from You, a good offspring. You are indeed the All-Hearer of invocation."

Fasting In Ramadhan

We have to fast to get reward from ALLAH. We read Al-Qur'an everyday to make ALLAH happy. If we do good things in Ramadhan, the reward is greater than other months. We try to fast until 30th Ramadhan. Good Luck!

Fasting During Ramadhan

We started fasting on 22/8/2009. But on 21/8/2009 we started to do Solat Taraweeh before fasting. When we fast, we cannot eat a thing. But Allah said its okay for little children not to fast, old people that are sick and women that have uzur. Allah s.w.t says if we don't fast, we have to pay zakat to the poor. That's all I've got. How To Make A Good Muslim Boy or Girl

by Safwan (Year 3 Ibnu Batutah)

Ingrediants:

1 book of Al-Qur'an
1 large cup of Iman
4 bowls of Respect
2 spoonful of Good Manners
a pinch of Obedience
sprinkles of Love and Affection

Method:

Take one Muslim boy or girl. Teach him or her to read and understand the Book of Al-Qur'an, at least one page a day.

Stir daily 4 bowls of Respect with a large cup of Iman. Add 2 spoonful of Good Manners to the child. Mix well with the pinch of Obedience slowly together.

Serve him or her with sprinkles of Love and Affection (be generous) on top and walla. . . .

finally you will get a Good Muslim Boy or Girl Inshaallah!

In Muslim nations and regions around the globe, this is the second week of the holy month of Ramadan, a time for followers to abstain from eating, drinking, smoking and intimate activity during the day, breaking their fast each sunset, with traditional meals and sweets. Think Before You Throw!

We produce over 15,000 tons of rubbish everyday. It is only a matter of time before we run out of space to dispose of them. Recycling reduces waste, which in turn reduces the need for landfills and dumpsites.

Recycling reduces pollution and saves energy. Making

products from virgin or raw materials results in pollution

and uses more energy.

Recycling is cheaper in the long run compared to maintaining landfills and other systems. When recycling programmes

become more efficient, there will be less rubbish to dispose of.

Recycling creates up to 5 times more jobs than waste disposal alone. It will create jobs for engineers, machine specialists, environmental personnel, general workers and many more.

Recycling improves cleanliness and quality of life.

Breakdown of solid waste created by Malaysians

Experts believe a landfill can last 10 years longer if Malaysians recycled 50% of their garbage The residents of Johor Bahru generate 1300 tons of waste every day.

It will take only 3 days to fill the entire length of the Johor Causeway with this amount of garbage.

Malaysia is running out of space to dispose of the urban waste generated daily by wasteful consumption. There simply aren't enough landfills. According to Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting, 80% of the country's landfills will be full in two years. In fact, landfills themselves cause many serious environmental problems both for us and for future generations.

If every individual reduces the amount he or she wastes, we will make a major contribution towards sustainable development.

So come on everyone, because every bit helps!

Islam has accorded an elevated status to the Miswaak. Its importance has been stressed in many Ahadith of our Holy Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam). The statements and examples of the Sahaba and the Ulama of Islam regarding this practice bear testimony in abundance of the significance of the Miswaak.

Ibn Umar (R) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said:

'Make a regular practice of the Miswaak, for verily, it is healthy for the mouth and it is a Pleasure for the Creator (i.e. Allah is pleased with the Muslim who uses the Miswaak)'."
(BUKHARI)

It is clear from this Hadith that two types of benefits accrue from the use of the Miswaak. These could be categorised as follows:
(1) UKHRAWI or Benefits which relate to the Hereafter;
(2) DUNYAWI or Benefits which relate to this worldly life.

The Ukhrawi category comprises the various Sawaabs (Rewards) which the Servant of Allah will obtain in the Hereafter for using the Miswaak. The Dunyawi category comprises the immediate benefits or advantages accruing to the physical human body by the constant use of the Miswaak.

The prime motive of the true Believer in his use of the Miswaak is his desire to obtain the first category of Benefits, i.e. Ukhrawi, the obtainal of the second category being a necessary corollary. This is so, since the only factor which governs the motive and intention of the Believer in his Ibaadat (Worship) is the Pleasure of Allah, our Creator, Nourisher and Sustainer. Hadhrat Ali (R), the fourth Khalif of Islam said:

"Make the Miswaak (i.e. its use) incumbent upon you, and be constant in this practice because Allah's Pleasure is in it and it increases the Reward of Salat from ninety-nine times to four hundred times."
In fact, the importance of the Miswaak is such that at one stage our Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) was under the impression that Allah Ta'aala might decree the use of the Miswaak Fardh (compulsory) upon the Ummah (Islamic Nation).

Abu Umamah (R) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said:
'Use the Miswaak, for verily, it purifies the mouth, and it is a Pleasure for the Lord. Jib-ra-eel (A.S.) exhorted me so much to use the Miswaak that I feared that its use would be decreed obligatory upon me and upon my Ummah. If I did not fear imposing hardship on my Ummah I would have made its use obligatory upon my people. Verily, I use the Miswaak so much that I fear the front part of my mouth being peeled (by constant and abundant brushing with the Miswaak)'."
(IBN MAJAH)

Hadith:
Hadhrat Shah Waliullah (R) relates the following
"The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said:
'I was commanded to use the Miswaak to such an extent that I thought the Miswaak would be made obligatory'."
(AHMAD and TIBRANI)
Although the use of the Miswaak was not made Fardh (compulsory) upon the Ummah, nevertheless its use was Fardh upon our Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam). This is borne out by the following Hadith:

"Aisha (R) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam): said:
'These (practices), viz., Miswaak, Witr Salaat and Tahajjud Salaat, are Sunnat for you and Fardh for me'."
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R) narrates:

"The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) would use the Miswaak (regularly) prior to sleeping and after rising from sleep."

Imam Ghazali (R), in his Ihya-ul-Uloom, has enum,erated ten Aadaab (Respects or duties) of sleep. The very first of these being purity and the use of the Miswaak (before sleeping).

Allamah Sha'rani (R) states in the Kitaab, Kashful Ghummah, that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) advised:

"Whenever you retire for sleep, use the Miswaak."

Shaikh Abu Hamid (R) has said likewise in his Kitaab known as RAUNAQ.
Hadhrat Ibn Umar (R) says that many a time Rasulullah used the Miswaak as much as four times in a single night. Hadhrat Aishah (R) narrates:

"Verily, the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) would use the Miswaak before making Wudhu (ablutions) whenever he arose from sleep, whether it be during the night or during the day."
(ABU DAWOOD)

"The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam): would use the Miswaak at night time (i.e. Tahajjud time) after every two Rakaats Salaat he (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) performed."
(IBN MAJAH)

Allamah Aini (R) has recorded the following in Bunayah

"It is Mustahab to use the Miswaak after every two Rakaats of Tahajjud Salaat (i.e. the Salaat which is performed after midnight), as well as on Fridays, before sleeping, after Witr Salaat and when rising in the morning."

Allah creates everything we need. Take, for example, the food that is essential for human life. Allah creates vegetables, fruit, chickens, cows, sheep, pretty little birds and fluttering butterflies. Allah creates your parents and all the people around you. Allah, the All-Mighty endows people with the bodies, intelligence, knowledge, strength, health and the opportunities they enjoy.

Alhamdulillah Alhamdulillah Alhamdulillah!

As mentioned earlier, Allah creates all these as blessings for us. We owe the food we eat to Allah. Similarly, we owe the ability to eat this food to Allah.

Think of this for a moment. . .

How would you be able to chew your food without your teeth?

How would you digest it without your stomach?

Would the existence of food have any meaning if we did not have digestive systems?

We are all nourished by Allah's will. Because it is Allah Who gives all blessings to us, it is Allah to Whom we must pray when we want something to happen or to obtain something. Consequently, we must ask for everything from our Lord,

Yes, we must pray and humble ourselves to make Du'a to Him alone. And supplication and prayer cannot be limited to certain places or time. We can think of Allah and pray to Him at any moment. He is always there to listen.

This is to remind myself and everyone, not to forget to say our prayers today, meanwhile I leave everyone with a Du'a on this blessed day, this very Friday Inshaallah. . .

"Oh Allah! I ask for mercy from You by which You will guide my heart,

protect me from what is unseen to me,

make my face radiant,

purify my deeds,

inspire me with wisdom,

avert calamities from me,

Abu Hurayra said,

"The Prophet was asked, 'Messenger of Allah, to whom should I be dutiful?'

'Your mother,' he replied. He was asked, 'Then whom?'

He replied, 'Your father.'

From this, we can see the special position that mothers have, which has been indicated by the hadith above. The word translated as dutifulness is in Arabic birr, a word that is also translated as "piety", that is, dutifulness to Allah SWT. Here again, parents (and in particular mothers) are due the same kind of honor in our feelings that we give to Allah SWT, because of what they reflect of His qualities.
